Abstract

The Asylum Law of 30 June 2008 establishes conditions and procedures for granting asylum and subsidiary protection and the statuses of asylum applicant, refugee and of subsidiary protection, transposing into internal juridical order Council Directives numbers 2004/83 EC, of 29th April and 2005/85 EC, of 1st December.

The Law contains specific provisions on resettlement, attached below in English (unofficial translation).

Abstract

The Resolution of the Council of Ministers Defines a quota of at least 30 refugees per year (quote from the English version of the Resolution):

"Therefore, in view of the continuity of active policies regarding reception and support to exiles, in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and with the Portuguese Refugee Council, it is imperative to promote the establishment of conditions to concede on an annual basis, asylum, to a minimum of 30 persons, namely to face refugee resettlement requests, according to article 27 of Law 15/98, 26th of March."
