Building Knowledge for a Concerted and Sustainable Approach to Refugee Resettlement in the EU and its Member States

EU Commissioner Malmström: The EU joint resettlement programme will pave the way for 200,000 more refugees in Europe by 2020

At the launch of the EU joint resettlement programme for refugees, Commissioner Cecilia Malmström urged the Member States to step up their efforts to resettle refugees. She hopes that Member States can resettle about 200,000 refugees by 2020 thanks to the new Programme, notwithstanding the economic crisis.

"A European resettlement program means that we can pool our resources and use them more effectively. It means we might be able to empty an entire refugee camp and offer asylum to the most vulnerable" said Malmström on her blog.
